There's a movie I watched the other day that is just AMAZING. It's called Sunshine Cleaning. **CAUTION** If you can not handle watching movies that deal with suicide/death then don't watch this movie. But, if you can handle it, it's awesome and I (and probably you as well) can relate to it 100%. The acting is wonderful, and the ending made me bawl, but it was a good cry, a healthy cry. I hope that someone else finds this movie helpful to watch as well. Has anyone else seen it?
Allison

I saw it, and found it REALLY hard to watch. I almost left, actually. I would not have gone, but it was a marathon with 2 "unreleased" movies in it- this was maybe 4 months ago?

I just saw it for the first time about 3 weeks ago and my mom died last September so I had some in between time. I think it's all in how you handle those types of things now, and how sensitive you are to suicide. I am trying to allow myself to embrace everything as it comes because it's going to be out there whether I like it or not and I don't want to shelter myself into someone who breaks down when encountering these things. Does that make sense?
I'm sorry it was hard for you to watch. I def think it may have been too soon. Thanks for writing about it, though. Allison

I got this on Netflix and my mom started watching me. The opening scene was very upsetting for her since that's how my brother took his life. I didn't know about it so I couldn't prepare myself or warn her. I don't care for much violence and gore regardless of it hitting so close to home. Otherwise I did think it was a very good movie.

Allison - I hear what you're saying.
Sometimes I watch movies like this, just to cry. I came across a tv show the other week called gravity - it's about a group of suicide survivors. I wouldn't reccommended it though for people here. It seemed very calous. |

Dear Allison,
I am new to this site and your post caught my eye as i lost my mother sep 11th 09 and she was also named karen. Although personally i find it very hard to watch said movies atm I am finding it very hard to cope with not only my personal loss but that those reactions of my father and brother too, i find the pain of my fathers loss hard to help? I guess this would be a common problem? However nobody seems to mention the impact of the loss in terms of becoming "mum" in the family home? Anyway hope you can give your opinion/situation to this:-) Joanne |
